Inspired by Brighton beach, driftwood and the Ovingdean rock pools further up the coast, especially rough weathered wood at the edges of walkways on Brighton seafront which contrasts with the smooth hardness of the colourful pebbles, which spill over the edges and become trapped in crevices. The Tangled series is of the debris left washed up on the esplanade and beach by the high tide and storms. The Abersoch series uses images from Abersoch beach in Wales and the amazing weathered wooden groynes and the effects of the rusting of the metal collars around the tops. My images are either hand painted onto silk or printed, then quilted and embroidered to create texture and raised areas in relief, giving a compelling, irresistible tactile quality to each piece. I enjoy the discord between the smooth lustrous qualities of silk as a medium and my subject matter. All pieces are one off originals.
We share a similar vision of the world through our art - the details of rocks, plants, water, and their formative and erosional processes. Glad to connect with like-minded artists!
Came across your work at the Sussex Guild show in Horsham yesterday and was blown away. The rockpools first caught my eye, then I got lost in the lichens. What a wonderful gift, to be able to capture these moments of deep beauty that mean so much to us, but are always just out of reach… I’ve never seen anything like it. Thank you.
Love your art work .. are the sea and rocks paintings or fabric. You have a special eye for the magical details. I am across the pond in South Dartmouth MA USA.. a special place with ocean and farms. I am looking for a large piece of artwork to hang in our barn next to an ancestral quilt for which I am named for. Anyway please point me to the best section to look at for large pieces.
Best, Anna
